AC201 - 7:30pm - Thursday 5th April
Our communities, our livelihoods and our futures are under attack by the Government and the so-called Troika - but there is another way. There is a solution that puts people before the profit of bankers, speculators and gamblers; a solution that goes beyond the corruption and cronyism that has held sway in this country for decades. The people power displayed in the campaign against the household charge has shown that ordinary people standing together can have a tremendous impact upon national politics. We can no longer sit back and allow the rich and powerful to make us pay for their crisis. Come along to Thursday’s meeting, have your say, and lets build for a real political and economic alternative.
The meeting will be addressed by one of Ireland’s leading economists Terrence McDonough, who has consistently argued against austerity and the bank and bondholder bailout. Cian Prenderville, an organiser in the ongoing campaign against the Household Charge will also speak at the meeting, discussing the lessons being learned from that campaign and the importance of people power in facing down austerity measures. Economics lecturer and political activist Brian O’Boyle will join the panel to discuss the political action that people and communities can take to defend themselves from continued financial attacks.
The meeting will take place at 7:30pm on Thursday 5th April in room AC201 in NUI Galway. All are welcome to attend and to participate.
