Rotaract offers a wide choice of social activities, actively supports your local community, raises money for charity and gives you the opportunity to develop your personal skills and gain new life experiences.
Last semester we threw the ''Pre exam party'' in our very own college bar, raising €1,250 for our chosen charity. Santa hats, candy canes , mulled wine and Christmas dinners were all sold to accomplish this. Along with a great group of volunteers and some generous students it was possible to present LARCC ( http://larcc.ie/ ) , a very worthwhile and deserving charity, with a cheque for this amount.
This Semester, we will be organising our massive annual event, THE SOCS IN THE CITY Fashion Show. It always proves to be a great experience to all those who participate. There are many roles, big and small so make sure to contact us if you would like to help out !
From November 2nd to 6th NUIG will become a hive of espionage, as the cloak and dagger game of Assassins is played out across the campus. After registering to play on Thursday 29th or Friday 30th of October, you will return to collect your first envelope the following Monday. This envelope will contain the mugshot of your first target, and a copy of their student card, to help you find their lectures. You will use stealth and evasion to track down and assassinate your first target, all the while watching your own back for the assassin who is trying to hunt you down. Be the best assassin and at the end of the week, you could win a cash prize of €1000 and two VIP tickets to the Rotaract Socs in the City Fashion Show 2009, happening on 10th November.
How to Play
1. Registration will be open on Thursday and Friday, 29th and 30th October.
2. When you come to register, we will take a photo of you, copy your student card and take the €10 entry fee.
3. On Monday 2nd November, you will return to Socsbox between 10am and 12pm to collect an envelope containing the photo and ID card copy of your first target.
4. You must then track down and assassinate your target as soon as possible.
5. To assassinate your target, you must tap them on the shoulder and say “You’re assassinated”.
6. You must then show them the photo from your envelope.
7. You will then take their envelope(s).
8. The person inside that envelope becomes your new target.
9. As the game continues, if you assassinate a player who has several envelopes, you assume their most recently acquired target, but also take their other envelopes.
10. At 12pm on Friday, Assassins will conclude, and all remaining players must return all of their envelopes to Socsbox. The winner is the person who has accumulated the greatest number of envelopes within the rules of the competition.
