Art society or the 'art soc' as it is better known around campus is one of the most active societies on campus. Our motto is if you cant draw we can teach you how to draw! We supply the art materials for every class and our art teacher for the art soc classes is Podge Daly who is more than happy to teach anyone that is willing to learn. Our classes are for all skill types, beginner to advanced so everyone is welcome to come and join in!
Our classes range to many different types that take place all over the year, life drawing, nude drawing, sculpting, painting, caricatures and mask making! Our art classes are on every Monday 6-8, Tuesday 7-9 and comic book drawing classes are on Wednesday 7.30-9.30, for the price of just 2euro per class! We run different things on different days so you don't have to come every day, just to the things that interest you! Tickets are available for each class downstairs in the socsbox.
On a Thursday from 1-5 the art room is open for people who want to work on their own piecies or need more time to finish pieces from the art classes. We have our own art room on campus located upstairs in Áras na Mac Léinn!
Please find our Constitution here.
On Monday the 28th of September, the first day of the Societies Week in NUIG started off with the Chalk Drawing event by the Art Society. It took place outside the library (next to the yellow thing).
They gave students the opportunity to draw graffiti on the paving slabs, the only chance during the whole year that students could deface campus property and get away with it! The idea was a huge success as everyone that saw it wanted to take part in the event which took place between 10: 00am to 5:00pm.
Even other societies took part in the event by advertising themselves on the slabs which showed unity toward other societies which is what the Art Society would love to do more of this year.
The event was a charity event in aid of Merlin Park hospital Psychiatric ward to help fund there art classes which for its patients are there only outlet on a day to day basis. The charity proved excellent and the Art Society would like to thankl everyone who took part as they helped collect over 140 euro from the one day event which is going for a very worthy cause.
