They say life is like a box of chocolates. Well college life is a lot like being a scout - whether you're orienteering to the best 'establishment', repairing the furniture after last night's party, or living without electricity after you've maxed out your ESB budget for the year. Whatever your personal interest, Rover Soc will help you develop it to a high standard in a social setting (and hopefully spark some new interests in you aswell)!
The aims of Rover Soc are to:
1. Allow existing Rover Scouts to gather socially.
-This helps renew interest for anyone who may have given up on Scouting previously.
-It helps to train new leaders, which are often in very short supply in scouting groups.
-This contributes to the social aspect of students’ lives as teamwork is unavoidable throughout our activities.
-Even outside of the college year, various Scouting groups could organize joint-group activities amongst themselves through contacts made in this society.
2. Allow current non-scouts to engage in and sample what Scouts has to offer.
-Since many activities involve students living and working in close quarters with each other, Rovers is strictly an over-18s society. As such, this society is only able to take in non-scouts who are 18.
-However, we feel that it’s very important to allow non-scouts to join so they can get a taste of all that Scouting Ireland has to offer.
-We hope that these non-scouts would be motivated to join their local group after engaging (and having a good time) in some social activities.
Please note:
-Joining this society does not automatically make you a member of Scouting Ireland.
-If you're interested in joining your local Scout group, talk to us and we'll help you as much as possible to get involved.
-Scouting Ireland activities are only available to members of the society who are already involved with scouts.
