Welcome to this weeks guide, As the semester comes to a close the societies have lots to keep you entertained this week. There are parties, films, theatre, workshops and many treats do check them all out below.
Thanks to all of you who participated in Music Week either as an organiser or as a participant. Congrats to Niamh Langan who won 1000euro in the NUIG's Got Talent, the standard of all the entrants was very high and I can report that after a week of music related events it is official NUIG has got buckets of talent. There'll be a number of OccSoccer OT students from higher years on hand to give advice and guidance if needed! Weekly Practice
Atlas Ascent are trekking through the Atlas Mountains in Morocco in aid of Childreach International and are looking for anyone else interested in joining. This presentation will give all information regarding the trip and answer any questions you may have. The trek will qualify for Gaisce applicants as their Adventure Journey but is open to non-Gaisce applicants as well. Refreshments to follow. All welcome.
Dr. Murphy is from the Irish Centre for Human Rights in Galway and is also the vice-president of Amnesty Ireland. Free pizza afterwards in the HUB.
For our last event of semester two, we'll be to meeting to watch and discuss "Why the Meltdown Should Have Surprised No One" by Peter Schiff, a lecture available online. The video lecture was recorded at the annual Austrian Scholars Conference, Ludwig von Mises Institute, 13 March 2009, and provides an interesting view on recent financial downturns including stock and housing bubble. We'll also be happy to hear about any events you'd like to see happening in semester 2 afterwards!
The Sub-Aqua Club, in association with Quiz Soc, are holding a general knowledge table quiz in the College Bar at 7pm on Monday 21st of November. Entry to the quiz is ?5 per person, or ?20 for a table of 4! Lots of fun is promised (as well as finger food) so please come along!

Darren Aronofsky's 'Black Swan' tells the story of a ballet dancer (the divine Natalie Portman) who wins the lead in "Swan Lake" and is perfect for the role of the delicate White Swan - Princess Odette - but slowly loses her mind as the personality of Odile, the Black Swan, exerts itself within her. La Haine's Vincent Cassel co-stars as her demanding ballet instructor, with Mila Kunis as a rival dancer.

Come one and all! Our committee (as awesome as it is) wants to expand. There are new positions to be filled and anyone that is remotely interested should come along and we'll find a place for you. Any help you can give us, big, small or not so small would be greatly appreciated. We will also be disguising upcoming events such as the Trip Away next semester, and anything else we might like to do and organise.
The devotional meetings are informal gatherings where everyone can come together to share writings from various world religions. Its not just religious scripture though, it can be anything that inspires someone, be it a poem, a paragraph from a novel, or a quote from a philosopher...anything really. Each week there is a program based loosely on a theme or topic, but people are encouraged to bring their own reading if they wish. They start and end with music, giving everyone a chance to reflect. The BizSoc are proud to bring you our International Tour that will be happening over the weekend 3rd-5th of February!
The International Tour is one of the highlights of the BizSoc calendar and we will be taking you to one of the five following destinations: Budapest (Hungary), Talinn (Estonia), Riga (Lativa), The Aran Islands or Barcelona (Spain).
The places are limited on this trip and the demand is extremely high. In order to apply for the trip you must:
1. Be a member of the BizSoc and have the BizCard.
2. Must have displayed a previous degree of interest or participation in one of our events this year, examples include, attending our National Mystery Tour, attending the Apprentice final, being a "shifter" on Take Me Out or playing a game of Pacman in the Students' Union Building!
3. Email your name, what year you are in and what degree you are studying to tours@nuigbizsoc.com.
4. In the email you are able to suggest the name of one friend who you would like to take along with you.
5. You must include in the email two lines on why we should take you on this trip. Don't be afraid to get creative and entertain us!
The closing date for this applications is THIS SATURDAY (26th Nov) at 5pm.
Upon obtaining a successful application, the collection of the TOTAL cost of the trip will need to be paid. The total cost of the entire trip is 100euro. This includes the transport to Dublin Airport, the cost of return flights to our destination, accommodation for two nights and some nice added extras too!
The payment will be collected from Tuesday 29th November, where you will have to sign a rules and safety statement to finalise your participation on the trip. Details on payment collection will be indicated once we have secured your place on the trip.

CALLING ALL SOCIETIES FOR Múscailt Festival 2012: EXPRESSION IS VITAL
Múscailt 2012 is looking for submissions from Societies or individuals for events to take place during the Múscailt Spring Festival on campus 6-10 February 2012. Events can be musical, comic, comic-book, imaginary, trash culture, rants, political, visual, physical, dramatic, static, silent or loud, in any language or medium. There is a small budget of €200 available towards a guest artist or a budget of €100 or €200 available towards an event, depending on costs. Full publicity will be provided by Múscailt Team and Arts Office on programme, website, poster and locally and nationally including radio/tv. Venues and technical support also provided. Please email submission to deirdre.lydon@nuigalway.ie by 5pm 1st December 2011 outlining main technical and venue requirements, a description of the event proposed, a title of the event, duration, preferred dates/times and any special requirements. SOLO SHOW Submissions Wanted For Monologue Series!
The third SOLO SHOW series is looking for new written monologue pieces 5 minutes maximum in length of delivery. The chosen ones will be showcased in the BOI Student Theatre during Múscailt and all submissions will receive feedback and support in shaping the final piece. Please submit 3 lines of an idea for a Monologue to James at blackcjf@hotmail.com by 5pm 1st December 2011. 7 monologues will be chosen and there will be a session to discuss development of monologue and to offer advice before 9 December . The full written piece (5 mins) must be completed by 14 January and emailed to James above or handed into Arts Office, Room 105, Aras na Mac Léinn. There will be then some feedback sessions/rehearsals before the performance of all 7 on Thursday 9 February. €50 Cash Prize and a unique original sculpture award to winner of SOLO SHOW. 3 judges will award merit on 3 areas – writing, performance and originality/characterisation.

Have you got the next big idea? The business and social leaders of tomorrow are on our campus today. The NUI Galway Students’ Union Enterprise Awards aim to unlock the potential of the students of NUI Galway to invest in their own futures today. If you have an idea for a new business or a social enterprise then this can be the competition that can allow you to realise your goal. Students are invited to sketch out the initial proposals for their project or business and to
draw up the plans they hope will make their idea a reality. The finalists will be given the chance to take their ideas forward and to set about implementing their projects with the assistance of a financial allowance, workshops and clinics. The closing date for submissions is 5pm Friday 25th November. The overall winner will receive a direct investment of €10,000 in
their project to really help get it off the ground in addition to further guidance and mentoring to help bring the project forward, while two runners up prizes, each valued at €5,000 will also be awarded. The goal of the competition is that every entrant has taken the first steps of launching their idea and so the benefits of each idea have been allowed to flourish.
